DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Act as a carrier on designated collection routes, picking up refuse containers, or yard waste as assigned, and depositing the contents of containers into a collection vehicle, and returning containers to prescribed area.  Pick up special collections as assigned.  Note variances in customers’ services.  Observe surrounding conditions such as citizens, equipment, property, etc. to ensure that refuse is collected in a safe manner. Regulate traffic in hazardous conditions to ensure safety conditions for the collection personnel and the public.  Wash collection vehicles, containers and other equipment.  Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.  Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Must be able to read and write.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work and operate a variety of equipment in the collection of refuse.  Must have the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other city employees.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be in good physical condition and be able to withstand extreme weather conditions.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
