The Street Division is comprised of eighteen individuals who are assigned to operate and maintain our approximate 100-mile street and alley system. This includes various construction activities, pavement repair, concrete repairs of curbs and sidewalks, signals, pavement markings, mowing and snow removal. In addition, the division is responsible for maintenance and operation activities on our drainage system such as installation of storm pipes and inlets, creek cleaning and ditch maintenance.
The street division also provides street sweeping for all curbed streets maintained by the City of Rolla. The downtown business district is swept on a weekly basis. The residential areas are swept on a regular schedule, normally taking approximately six weeks to clean the entire city.
This division is supported solely from sales tax and state gasoline and vehicle taxes. Our 1/2 cent Transportation Sales Tax funds the operations and maintenance while the 1/2 cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax and state taxes support our overlay and reconstruction program.
