A substance is considered hazardous when it contains ingredients or a combination of ingredients that can be harmful to the environment and/or human health. HHW products may ignite easily, react or explode when mixed with other substances, or may be corrosive, toxic or poisonous.
Materials are accepted by appointment only during specific collection times. Call the Rolla Recycling Center office at 364-6693 to schedule an appointment. When calling, please be prepared to describe the types of materials and quantity of each that you wish to drop off. Materials must be in original containers or clearly hand-labeled if placed in another container.
This is a free service to residents. This program is made possible thanks to Brewer Science, Inc., the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District, the Phelps County Landfill Board, and the City of Rolla. Donations are accepted in an effort to help keep the program in operation.
This program is open to residents in the Rolla/Phelps County community as well as the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District (Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski, and Washington counties). There is also a HHW facility located in Pulaski County.
This is strictly a residential service, business waste is prohibited. Below is a list of examples of household hazardous waste items that are included in, or excluded from, this program. For answers to questions regarding specific waste items, please contact the City of Rolla Recycling Center office at 364-6693.
Leaking containers must be placed in a secondary container (i.e., 5-gallon bucket) to prevent leakage/spillage at the collection site.
